Ep#59: This week we're showcasing the Indie Author Fringe highlight with Orna Ross "How To Sell Your Books Without Selling Your Soul". So many authors complain about marketing, seeing it as conflicting with their creative work. In this session, Orna Ross argues that this is a misunderstanding and that book marketing is just another form of communication with potential readers. The key to creative marketing is to align the words inside the book(s) with the messages you're sending out to the world. This session guides you through, by going deeply into your motivations for writing and applying the same seven stages of the creative process you go through in writing your books to your marketing and promotion.

This session has four segments:

  1. Passion, Mission and Books.
  2. You and Your Money.
  3. The Difference Between Marketing and Promotion.
  4. Reaching Your Reader.

The real key relationship is your relationship with your words obviously, but also and equally your relationship with your reader, and what they are seeking in the world and how you two connect imaginatively. And it really is a magical transaction, that connection across time and space and we are in service to that as authors. And the key to selling your books without selling your soul is to put your attention on the reader and what you are offering. Orna's session is accompanied by a free download of her book, How Authors Create Money and Meaning, a workbook, a work, rest and play book. You will get most out of this session if you download her book and you can go through the various exercises, some of which she will be referring to as we go through this presentation.
